Creating a Glossary of Terms
Posted on March 13th, 2012
The most difficult aspect of creating a glossary of terms is writing a clear definition for each entry.
WordNet is a database of the English language that can help simplify the task. As well as providing definitions of English words, WordNet also lets you explore relationships between terms such as "part of", "kind of", "member of" and "composed of".
The Wordnet database can be accessed in a number of different ways:
- Nikolai Golovchenko offers an uncluttered interface to WordNet here;
- GraphWords provides a visual interface to WordNet;
- Thinkmap's Visual Thesaurus is a proprietary visual interface to WordNet; or
- TheSage English Dictionary and Thesaurus is a desktop text based interface.
